The Iowa City Metaphysical Expo began as a dream of founder Cat Sinclair, who wanted a fun, welcoming gathering where friends and like-minded seekers could share their gifts. She formed the Iowa City Metaphysical Expo committee (Cat, Stephanie, Lori, Laura, Dave and Darcie), and in 2013 they hosted the first expo. That first year taught us a lot and inspired an even bigger vision for the future—including the realization that we needed both Montgomery Hall and Building C to hold all the speakers and energy of the event.

By 2014, Cat and Stephanie Ryan became co-chairs and organized the expo together. In 2017, Stephanie stepped into full leadership while Cat shifted into the role of expo ambassador. When Covid arrived in 2020, the expo went on pause. During that time, Stephanie’s business, Illuminations, continued to grow, and she eventually felt called to pass the mantle to someone new.

In 2023, Kay Christy took over ownership of the expo, carrying forward the heart and vision that Cat and Stephanie began.

A little about Kay
Kay Christy, MA, is a Behavioral Scientist, Psychic, Author, Life Coach and Metaphysical Teacher. She has been reading cards since the early 1970s and began offering professional readings in November 2011. From a young age, Kay naturally offered guidance and support to friends and family as both a helper and a listener. Bringing intuitive card work into these conversations became a perfect extension of her gifts—something she has refined over many years.

Kay offers an intuitive reading method that uses a round deck of playing cards and a board with “houses” that correspond to the meaning of each card. Sessions are fun, interactive and often “spot on.” She learned this method more than 40 years ago from a Romani woman who had received it through the traditions of her mother and grandmother.

Today, Kay has a thriving private practice that includes card readings, life coaching and teaching metaphysical and intuitive development. In 2014, she published Gifts From Guidance with Balboa Press, an anthology of prayers and affirmations received through automatic writing.

Kay’s services reflect her eclectic background and style. Clients often share that the synchronicity created by blending behavioral science–based life coaching with intuitive arts continues to surprise and delight them.
